How to use the EPWN website tools for effective networking - part 1

I. Introduction
PWA’s membership in EPWN has given us the possibility of an international outreach to other professional women’s networks throughout Europe with a fantastic opportunity to broaden your professional network within Europe. The most important tool to make it happen is the EPWN website.

Let’s discover step by step what makes this website so special and useful for us.

The EPWN public area that is visible for all visitors offers a lot of information about Women’s networking and EPWN in particular. As this information is not a privilege of our membership I will not further comment it here, because it is the member’s area where the real networking begins.

II. Login and Welcome Page
Click on the “Member’s Login” button on the Homepage and you’ll see a page with two blank fields for your account and password.
Logins and Passwords are a modern time nightmare. We have too many numbers, codes and passwords that it is tough to remember them and a hassle to have them written somewhere. But believe me in the case of EPWN it is worth the effort.
First of all EPWN makes it easy. Your account is your full name written in small letters and separated by a full stop. For example.: sofia.loren . In case of a double surname both names are part of the account, for example.: jacqueline.kennedy.onassis

Your password was chosen by yourself, at the beginning of your membership and you can change it anytime in the Profile area. If you don’t remember your password just click on the link “Problems with your login” and you’ll see a page on which you can request a new password. To make it even easier here is the link.

If your account should not work you can use the same link to get help.

If you want to change your password, go to your profile and hit "Account & Password".

A successful login leads you to the “Member’s Only Welcome Page”. This page is a personalized info page that gives you an overview of

  1. "Recent Activities", which all that has taken place since your last visit.
Here you can see how many new messages are on the message board and how many profiles have been updated. Clicking on the single items leads you directly to the respective page.
  2. "To Do List", that states all you could do to improve your presence in the network.
For example you will be reminded to update your profile or to add anything if it is missing. Once again clicking on the single To Do Task leads you directly to the page where you can do it.
  3. "My Groups" that lists all the groups that you subscribed to.
What the groups are and how they work will be presented in one of the following parts of this presentation.
  4. "EPWN Book orders", that shows the latest EPWN books.
Clicking on the presented books leads you to the page where you can directly purchase them.
  5. "Upcoming events for Members" where you see all EPWN events that will take place soon all over Europe.
You can either click on the single events that are listed, to get more information or to sign up, or you can have a calendar overview to see the whole months. Of course you will also find the PWA events on this calendar and later on the calendar will be presented more in detail.

With the February Newsletter we will issue Part II in which you can learn about the importance of your profile and how to set it up.
